Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

Referral Options

We accept referrals via the following routes. Once your referral has been processed and accepted, you will be contacted by phone or letter to book your appointment.

Insurance

Insurance referral - Please check with your insurance provider for further details.

NHS

NHS referral- Please discuss with your GP who can email your referral to referrals@optimisehcg.co.uk.

Private

(Please note not all NHS trusts offer this treatment and special funding arrangements will need to be arranged). 

Screening

Most people can receive TMS including children from aged 14. Individuals who have had poor response to pharmaceutical treatment and other therapies. However, before having TMS, you need to tell your doctor if you have any metal or implanted medical devices (e.g. aneurysm clips, stents, magnetic fragments), a history of seizures, brain damage or other medical conditions.

A chargeable assessment and screening appointment will be required to assess your eligibility for treatment.

Treatment

Treatment can last between 2-6 weeks dependant on your availability and the treatment plan agreed by your Consultant Psychiatrist. We usually recommend 30 treatment sessions but you will be reviewed after 15 sessions to assess your progress.

A two-week course will require attendance everyday Mon-Fri. You will receive 3 treatment sessions over two hours.

Other timeframes can be discussed based on your availability.

Maintenance

After your treatment is complete, you may wish to consider a maintenance plan to prevent relapse. This is not always required and will be discussed in your final appointment with your Consultant Psychiatrist.
